I meant to say you will lose some top end speed with a 3:73 but you will have more speed getting to your top end.

Yeah it all depends how fast the course is that you are on. Not having a roll bar, I am not allowed to really do any organized courses. I'm running a 6500 RPM red line. As for top speed, a lot of guys complain that you lose top end with 4.10's. My question is, when was the last time you did 180+ MPH? I love the acceleration difference from 3.55 to 4.10 and unless I tracked regularly in a place where 4.10's hinder ET's, I wouldn't have it any other way. Over head cam engines love to breath up high, 4.10's get you in to the range faster. Almost as good as having a 6 speed. (but 5 will have to do).

A few years ago I ran top speed simulations for V8 Mustangs differing only in the axle gear ratios, and it turned out that once you start considering aero drag there wasn't nearly as much difference in the actual top speeds as the "theoretical top speed" calcs suggest. IIRC, some of the results would surprise you.

Trying to find 5-speed transmission and axle gearing that would be utterly ideal for all likely uses (street, strip, autocross, road course running) is an exercise in futility.

I know this thread is a little old, but I'll try anyway.
Does anyone have a link to a 3.73 kit, i feel a little uneasy just picking up a random kit from ebay.
Also, hor will a 3.73 ratio do with an automatic and a S.C. engine?
