Default Department of Boost GT450 kit

Just trying to get some info here. Anyone that's installed one of these kits have any insight on install? How hard is it compared to Roush/ insert name brand here? I have no problem fabricating or working through problems if needed but I don't want this to be too crazy of an install. I have all the tolls and shop supplies so that doesn't worry me. I like this kit because of price it seems to be quality and will allow me to stick a few grand back in a rainy day fund in case anything goes wrong. I could afford a more expensive kit but don't want to spend all my funds on just the kit. So any issues on the install is good to know. Thanks for any insight!

Honestly I looked into them and for all the fabricating and hassle, the price was nearly the same as a brand name supercharger, unless you have a free supercharger from a GT500 laying around.

+1 for DOB. did full kit with dual pass afro for roughly 4400 including tune.

relatively easy install, minor wire splicing, slight bit of grinding on one head, and the bolts holding down the knock sensors. and just running hoses and such

Stock as of now, but engine started making some noise so putting in a forged block.

was running 450ish, had JBA headers on, offroad midpipe, and the supercharger

How many miles before the noises started? It's a daily so I plan to build a motor slowly after the blower goes in but would like to get at least a year or so out of the stocker.

Mine was from a coolant leak.

Previous owner of my manifold seperated it to have it powdercoated.

Seems it wasnt sealed 110% so eventually caused a leak.

It seems on startup one of the cylinders got a little water splashed into it which hydrolocked it, not to the point of shattering to a million pieces but enough to bend the rod and crack some skirt pieces off the piston

That sucks sorry to hear that. thanks for the info though! I'm stuck between this kit and the Roush. I need a sealed intake with my hood so I'd have to add that on which makes the cost close to the Roush. I love being different so that's drawing me to the Dept. Of boost kit but for $600 more it's all brand new and I get the I take I need straight from roush. Rough decisions ahead.

Yea, heres the rod/piston that caused the issue

The DOB setup is a very nice setup, good sized coolant fittings, so they arent choked by 1/2" or 5/8", the newer R setup will use 1.25" fittings which will flow a MASSIVE amount of water in comparison
