Exclamation 12V Cigarette Lighter Low Power

The 12v outlet by the shifter in my 2002 Mustang GT puts out low power. I noticed when I Had my phone plugged in and was using the GPS instead of charging it drained. And when plugged in and not being used it does not charge. It sends power because my phone was showing the charging signal. What could be wrong? TYIA!

most of the time when that's happening, your phone is using the power faster than the charger is charging the battery. if your phone is showing the charging signal then it is getting power when your phone is off or not being used. you can try using a different adaptor or cable. good luck

Have you tried to check the voltage at the outlet?

I'd bet your adapter is the bottleneck.

Hey, thanks for all the replies. I tested the Voltage and I was getting 14.6V from it (not sure if higher volts is bad) but I am thinking it is what you guys are saying about the (USB Charger Adapter) I have.

If you got 14.6Vs you probably had the car running. Telling us that you are getting pretty much a direct battery feed. FWIW

I tested the output of the USB Adapter I am using and I'm getting 5.12V and the output labeled on it is 5V. Everything seems to be getting all the power it needs. The only thing left is the cable itself, but it's good because it works fine when I have it plugged in at home.

volts isn't the be all end all of charging, amps are..if it's a low amperage charger, then it will charge your phone slowly.

My USB type cord on my iPhone that I use in my house looks fine. However in the last week or so it appears to be movement sensitive, some of the time, move the phone, attempt to use the phone while plugged in and it blips in and out of charge mode. Maybe you have a similar problem.
