I had the a local muffler shop straight pipe my 06 GT and they sound awesome. They charged only $100 compared to $350 plus for systems such as Boom Tubes, Pypes muffler deletes, SLP Loudmouth, and etc. I had them install 17" X 4" chrome tips.
Is the stock S197 exhaust pretty solid? I mean is an aftermarket exhaust system only going to upgrade the sound and not much in performance
If your talking about an axel-back or cat back exhaust system then yes, you are really only changing the sound of the car and not really gaining any power. when you start messing with the headers and mid pipe then your looking at a decent power gain. a full exhaust system will get you around 20-30 hp.
hello if you wanna have sound like 03 04 cobra on your newer mustang only way to have that muscle sound is american racing long tube headers catted x pipe and pypes mid muffler system its a best 3v sound ever i tell you that much watch the video of these combination
+1 to calspecial. Its all about the sound. I went with the Bassani (spelling maybe incorrect) and JBA shorty Headers. I noticed a slight power gain. Later I put on the Spintech axle back. The car sounds great and I recommend it for that reason alone.

I just put an axle back flowmaster system on my 07gt and I got the sct tuner with a jla intake. I'm wondering what's the next step for the exhaust. I don't want to throw any cel's but would like more power and more aggressive sound. A friend of mine told me to throw some hi flow cats on. Also the guy at brenspeed said my tuner would not need a reflash and I'm not sure about that.
