Exclamation Turbo or not Turbo

Hey everyone

I am new to the site and I would like some input on turbo kits for the 2.3
I have a 92 convertible, runs good, about 125000 on the motor and I have no idea what trans is in it. I have been thinking about putting a turbo in the car, but I am not sure if it would be too much strain on the motor and trans. I am also open to suggestions on other ways to get a little more out of it without a turbo.

You generally don't want to add a turbo to an N/A engine, as you would have to build up the internals and spend way more than swapping in a turbo engine. You can pick up a turbo 2.3 engine at almost any junk yard, or search craigslist. They will be cheaper than any turbo kit. When you find a good engine, just come on back and someone will guide you through the swap. Is your tranny auto or manual? Auto is A4LD, and manual is T5 unless the previous owner swapped trannies.

Now about non-turbo power, it's going to cost a lot more money per horsepower. You can put in a bigger cam, a ranger exhaust header, a cold air intake, and maybe some porting and polishing. Doing all of that will cost a lot, but you will get a lot of power compared to the 105 that you have now.

Well you are in the same boat with a lot of us then. For free HP, you can take the silencer out of the air tube between the MAF and the throttle body. You could replace this with a piece of 3" pvc pipe also. Do you have emissions tests in Florida? If not, you can also make an egr block for pretty cheap with a piece of scrap metal. Then you can go to a junk yard and pull a ranger header out of a 94-95 I think, and install that. Those are the cheapest mods you can do, and you could probably do all three for under $30.

Look for 87,88 thunderturd turbocoupes. They have best cpus, vams. Merkur x4rti same year. If no luck, start colecting pieces little by little, as time/money allow. Depending on your mechanical ability would dictate best method of install, meaning keeping your 8 plug head/block, or swapping 4 plug/dizzy motor. Each one has its pros and cons. Ive built alot of these motors, and they can make a huge amount of power.
