Default New car, not new to the forum

Well i have been looking for a car that gets good gas millage because the 14-15 i was getting in my ram 1500 was KILLING me, so today i finally found a car. I bought a 92 LX 4 banger. It has 87,000 miles and runs great. It has flowmasters and a front and rear bumper from an 88 GT. Not a bad way to spend $900.00

I think you'll be happy with that purchase. That's $900 for something that can potentially get towards 40mpg, and frankly it's a better car choice than most things that will get that good of mileage. I do have a few questions though: 1.Any plans for the car? 2.Where are you located? and 3.Can you take a sound byte or video of the exhaust? I don't think I've heard a 2.3 flowmaster setup before.

It needs some work. It has a very small trans leak around the pan i have to fix, and i dont know if its just me, but it has no acceleration. Im going to give it a tune up today. (plug, wires, oil, air filter, ect.) I love the car.
My plans are to have it painted, and as time goes on i would like to put a 3.73 in the rear. I about crapped my self yesterday when it only took 20 to fill the tank vs the 50 to 60 it took to fill my truck. I'll get a sound clip up as soon as i can.

No acceleration for the N/A 2.3 is normal. As for the 3.73 gears you want to put in, they are already in there... Auto 2.3's got 3.73 and manual got 3.45

thanks for the info sleeper that woulda sucked to buy a 3.73 and already have them in there. Any ideas on how to perk it up a little? Im used to my 5.2L and being able to hit the gas and smoke my tires?

That exhaust sounds nice, just a little too grumbly for me. There's all sorts of things you can do for more power, depending on your budget, time, and how much you want out of it. You can swap in a 5.0 for the most power, but you will lose your good gas mileage. You can also swap in a 2.3 turbo engine. Many go this route because it takes less time and money than the v8 swap, with almost as much hp stock. If you don't want to do a swap, however, you'll have to try harder for each extra horsepower. Here are a few popular n/a mods:

DIY Cold air intake- <$20 and <1 hour for ~3 hp
Air intake silencer delete- FREE, <30 min, no major modification, maybe 1-3 hp.
Ranger exhaust header- ~$25, ~1 hour plus time making/blocking egr tube, ~10 hp, maybe 20-25 if egr blocked and header is ported.

Depending on local legality, you can cut out the cats or replace them with high flow cats. Mine were plugged and needed replacing anyway. I got magnaflow cats for $120, ~1 hour, ~10-15 hp probably

Since you live in Georgia I doubt you would want to delete the a/c, but mine didn't work in the first place so I just took the ac belt off. You can buy lightweight pullies, but they aren't really worth the money.

You can swap in a bigger cam too for about ~$400-500, 2-4 hours, and up to maybe 40hp before you would have to replace other valve train parts.

Others might have a better Idea on horsepower estimates, those are just my estimates. For the most bang for your buck, go turbo if you can.

Yes, I think all 90-93s have those specs.
