Default 2.3l 4.6l Related?

I was thinking about these two engines and was wondering if anyone had info if they were related? Reasoning: 2.3l=4 cylinders. 2.3l x 2 = 4.6l. 4cylinders x 2 = 8cylinders. Both SOHC engines. Did they have similar concepts, designers? Or just a coincidence?

The bore and stroke are different. 2.3 is 96x79.5 and 4.6 is 90.2x90. Also, the head and block designs are different. It is basically all coincidence I think. Also, the 2.3 is the second biggest of the Lima/Pinto engines, and the 4.6 is the smallest of the Modular V8s.

Not at all. But a Volvo 2.3 is. Some using the dual cam on a 2.3. Doable but expensive. Also the Volvo single cam head also. Maurice
