Throttle Body Cleaning

Throttle Body Cleaning
Is it ok to use a TB cleaner/spray? I've heard that Ford discourages it but I can't read the worn decal label on the intake. What I can read is that the TB screw shouldn't be adjusted. Any input/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Personally, I've cleaned plenty if throttle bodies at work. I use a spray from qmi, and sea foam,my 02 once a year. Pull your air cleaner hose off where it connects to your tb.DO NOT MOVE THE THROTTLE PLATE BY HAND OR ANY OTHER TOOL. Get a buddy to push your accelerator down, with the engine off. Spray a little of your cleaner in the tb, get yourself a cheap toothbrush, and scrub that badboy. Reconnect every thing and fire it up. It will hesitate, it may take a couple cranks too. Let it find idle on its own when it does fire up. I can't stress enough the fact that you shouldn't move that throttle plate any other way but by pushing the pedal or manually moving the throttle cable at that little 1/4 pulley, and also that you shouldn't use that whole can. I use a 6oz can on 3 to 4 cars. All that being said, ford probably doesn't suggest a lot of things we do to our vehicles. Weight your options first too. if your having throttle issues, a can of cleaner and a toothbrush may save you from diag time and a new tb.

I used the new STP product that is like SeaFoam and it worked great. It cleaned all the carbon, varnish, and deposits out of my intake system and blew it out the back exhaust. My little 93 2.3l runs better than it ever has since I purchased it.
