Default considering getting a 2.3l so looking for a little advice

hello, everyone. i recently sold my 2002 gt convertible due to financial issues. was considering getting an older camaro but, decided that i can not go on without a stang so i figured i'd get a 5.0 but, i was wondering if the 2.3l are any good? i have someone that want's to sell me a 87' for 1500. is this a good price? it will need paint, headliner, new power steering hose, and the tint removed. he also has a 400 big block that he will throw in for $400 dollars more. so my questions are what are some of the pros and cons of the 2.3l and would i be able to put this 400 big block in with little to no extra modifications needed? could the car even handle the 400?

The 2.3L is a great little motor. They can take alot of abuse and keep on running. the only downside Ive found with mine is in stock form they severely lack in the hp dept. but the potential to make power is there.
