The transmission shifting back into 1st could mean a internal issue or a solenoid problem.

Try pulling codes, if you get thing I really think you should have a shop take a peek at it
i was still getting 332 when i pulled codes yesterday before the tow truck picked it up. i wanna get this resolved thursday night after i get the car back. when does the egr need to open? at normal operating temp? how can i narrow down where the problem is. if i'm right, the only parts involved are the egr valve, the egr vacuum solenoid, and the egr valve position sensor. the freaking haynes book sucks for the mustang. it was great for my saturn and honda i had. is the chilton manual better? i can't seem to find the factory service manual.

i know i already pulled off the egr vacuum solenoid and took the cap off. it looked pretty freaking nasty inside. but i don't want to spend money on parts i don't need. i just wanna get it running good and get past inspection!

Clear the codes and go for a long drive and once thats done pull codes and see if it's still there, if not then no issues, if so then we'll dig deeper into the issue.

EGR should open when cruising down the hwy.

I have a chilton, and a hayns manual... Personally I find them both useless for the mustang
