I'd go with lowering springs myself. Sounds kinda shoddy just cutting them up. Hey, where in Indiana are you located? Haven't seen anyone else from IN in the 4 cyl section.

[quote=FoxGT;5490661]Cutting your springs raises spring rate & makes the front stiffer, but you can go too far with it. Heating up the springs to lower ride height will lower spring rate making the car likely to bottom out.[quote]
I'm a litte Confused by that? i could have been wrong on "spring rates" but how would Taking a Portion of the spring make it Stiffer?, unless the coils were re-coiled.

unless i can score some used ones im not gonna buy them new since they r kinda pricey, im also tryin to go for a raked dropped too, thats why i dropped the front 2.5" and the rear 1.5"...but for now im gonna keep the springs until i get some more money later
Cool I used to live in Lafayette near Greenbush Street on the north. Still have family out that direction. Now I'm down west of Indy.

You could either find a used spring, cut it halfway down & try pushing it down after you've cut it.
It might not be very noticable on a smaller scale like just taking an inch off. Think about it like this, lets say you could have a spring wrapped with the same amount of coils/ft same coil thickness, but have the spring 10 feet tall. If you jumped on the spring it would have alot of give in it & wouldn't push you back up very well. Now compare that with a car spring that has the same amount of coils/ft with the same coil thickness. You jump on it it won't go down much & it will have alot harder of a push to it.
The coil/ft & thickness is staying the same, but there is less spring so it gets stiffer the more you cut. If you were to heat it up to lower it, then the coil/ft would increase while thickness would remain making it have alot more give to it.
Based on these general principles, you now know what to do to change the properties of a spring you already have. For instance, if you want to make automotive valve springs a little stronger than stock, you can a) go to a slightly heavier wire and keep the dimensions and coil count the same, b) decrease the diameter of the spring, keeping the wire size and coil count the same, or c) decrease the number of active coils, keeping the wire size and spring diameter the same. Naturally, you can also go to a stronger material to achieve the same result.
What he did to his springs was the same described in (c)
