Default intercooler options for 2.3t

i have a 89 coupe and a 87 tc i am going to do the swap but wanted to get a few things done while i am at it. First i was looking into the intercooler. I have heard of people using the volvo ic but didnt know if this would be a temporary fix or if this would get me to my goal of low 13 high 12 1/4 mile times.i dont want the ones that are very noticable either.

The Volvo unit will work but it has plastic end tanks that tend to blow off under moderate boost. It also has quite a bit of pressure drop and small inlets/outlets. Guys have used the smaller Mitsubishi Starion I/C's, '87-'88 TC I/C's mounted in front and some of the cheap I/C's off Ebay. My research has led me to the large Isuzu NPR I/C. It's the best bang for the buck without going into an aftermarket I/C, such as Spearco. The NPR is all metal, has very little pressure drop and 2-3/4" inlets/outlets.

Fits like a glove in my '89 ragtop. Sorry, I don't have a pic with the nose on but believe me when I say, with the car assembled you absolutely can't see it!

The above choice is a popular one for sure. I am just running an ebay knockoff myself, but you can see it through the hole in the bottom of the bumper. I think it mostly comes down to how much you want to spend and how much fabrication work that you want to do.

Buy a 7.3 power stroke intercooler. Cut 7 rows off it, weld it and you have an intercooler that will never need to be upgraded again for $300?

I'm going this route when I find a dang holset

Start roving your local pick 'n pulls, you may get lucky. They tend to be fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things. And it's more than enough to run a low 13. How you are getting more power is more important in that aspect of things...

Head and cam work you won't really be able to tell unless you pull the head off and check things out. There should be a series of numbers on the turbo that show the size, I believe the stock turbos on 87 TC's had AirResearch or something on them, they are the smaller IHI's. A popular upgrade was to swap to the T3.

Your car is not going to like injectors any bigger than it already has, the LA3 can't really control anything bigger without some sort of piggyback system. The 35's are about all you can get. Do you want low 13's in street trim? Or in an all out drag setup type of car?

Cam - have bigger lift/lobes
Head work - ports will be smooth
turbo - What engine is it?

i would like it in street form basically i probably wont hit the track much but i want to have something that if i want it to get up and go it will.i say the low 13 range because i have been in a few mustangs that run those times and that is the feeling i am looking for.they are all v-8 but i have looked on a few websites and have seen people running those times with the 2.3t. i just wanted to build something different.i am used to my bike that i have been riding for almost a year straight everyday and there isnt many cars on the road that can touch that thing. it runs 9.7 in the 1/4
