Default oil covered ignition coil

i think i effed up. i changed my oil today, drove it for about 30 minutes and now it won't start. i popped the hood and looked around and the ignition coil at the back of the engine (closest to the firewall) was pretty much soaked with oil. i disconnected all the wires, pulled the coil out and dried off as much of the oil as i could. of course the arms on the connector that goes into that coil were broke and when i pulled the connector off, oil flowed out of it. i dried everything up as best i could and put it all back together, but still won't start.

am i looking at simply changing that coil or will i need to replace that connector also?

Hi,

How much oil did you use? It sounds like you may have over filled it, thus the oil needing a place to escape and by the sounds of it, it used its exit through the valve cover, or, you oil cap wasnt secured down tight enough.

As for the coil pack, just clean it up as best as you can. You can easily test those with an Ohm meter. If you need the Primary and Secondry resistance values, let me know.

Have a great weekend.

i'm pretty sure i didn't overfill it. i think it was between 4 and 5 quarts. i checked the oil filler cap and it was tight. the funnel did slip out of my hand at one point but i thought it was empty and i guess it wasn't.

i didn't think it was possible to check the coil packs. but now that it's starting, i checked the spark at each of the wires and it's got a pretty strong blue spark on each one. the front pack seemed like it was a better spark, but i'll check it again in a day or 2 after it has hopefully dried up all the way.

Hi,

Just so you know, most autoparts stores can test the Ignition Coils too.
