it's all back together (minus the outer timing cover - waiting on a replacement) and running better than it ever has for me. there is so much more get up and go and the vacuum problem i was having that i couldn't figure out is resolved. when i would put a vacuum gauge on it before, the needle was bouncing back and forth between 16 and 17 inches and now it's sitting at 20 steady. the only thing i noticed when i took it for a spin was that there was a rattling coming from the front passengers side for a couple of minutes but then it went away.

the only thing i couldn't find is what the torque specs are supposed to be on the 4 bolts that hold the crank pulley and the 4 bolts that hold the water pump pulley on.

next step is replacing the tach to see if i can resolve it sitting at 4k whenever the key is on and not moving at all. then comes the shocks and struts.
