I've been wondering for a while.. ive been debating if i should go with a 2.3 or 5.0 but im leaning towards the 2.3 since i cant find any 5.0 in my area for a good price and i need a car asap. I just really want to know how much i can juice the engine up because i know for sure im going to get sick of the 88-100+hp. What should i install? pardon me for being a newb im new to cars and thanks your input will be much needed

Ha, I've been trying to find things to do to mine for a while. If you have some good mechanical skills, or know someone who does, you can do a little. You can probably get around 120 hp or so without spending good money. But like SKAR said, you should go the turbo route or the 5.0 if you can find one. Good luck with your search. I inherited my 2.3L, or else I would have gone turbo or 302.

If you think your going to get sick of having little power than your going to have to go the turbo route,
Theres not a ton to be done to the 2.3 n/a without dumping quite a buit of money into it.
Id suggest finding a car with a 2.3 turbo in it to swap into yours since everything you would need would be there.
yeah ive done alittle reasearch that seems the way i shall go or maybe if i get lucky ill swap with a 2.3t if i can ever get ahold of one i youtubed 2.3 and 2.3t popped up that sound sounds pretty sweet looks like out of nowhere ive found a 5.0 for $1000 if this deal falls to the 2.3 i goo
and you need to dump that a4ld trans. Pure junk. Cant handle modifications very well. Even ford realized this and limited boost in their turbo coupes from the factory vs the manual trans.
this time of year is a good time to start looking for 5.0's. In my area there are so many of them for sale that you can just tell the guy you'll buy the one down the street and they generally start to lower their price!
also, turbo is definitely the way to go if your going the 2.3 rout. Mine is NA right now and its pretty slow, and it does suck b/c its pretty hard to get any major power increase w/o big money. But, it is a good cheap way to get into a mustang and you can wait till you get a donor car with either a turbo or a 5.0. and it will give you a good education about cars in general!

here is your best option either buy a 5.0 like everyone said or buy a 85-86 Turbo coupe (85-86 because it had the better turbo and you can get it cheaper) has a 2.3t then go out and buy a LA3/LA2 and a VAM from the 87-88 TC's the main reason i say this is because i just bought a 86TC for $450 the ecu and vam only cost about $80 if you can find a deal deffinatly no question about it go manual the a4lds like said before are complete junk i have seen two 93 2.3's one with manual and the other auto run down the strip 2 second difference same driver both stock cars they SUCK.
