It is completely stock right now, and I plan on keeping it pretty stock for the swap just to make sure everything works when it goes in. But what I was wondering is if turbos are pretty universal as far as mounting to the exhaust manifold, as long as its a 4 bolt rectangular mount, or if I would need one that was ford specific to bolt to the manifold and have it all work?

Stick with the Ford specific T3 for now. The scanner connector is probably buried down here (red arrow). They're usually shoved pretty far down and wrapped around other wires and stuff.

I just found a T3 turbo out of a merkur XR4TI on ebay,
It does not come with the waste gate actuator, but has everything else. Claims there is no shaft play. He said he would take it off auction and sell it to me for $200. Is that a good price for one of these turbos??? Auction ends in just over a day so if you guys have any input, I would appreciate it asap!

thats what i was wondering, i dont understand that. If I got that turbo, could I use a waste gate or actuator from the IHI? I dont ever see any waste gates available on ebay or craigs list either. How hard are they to find if I have the rest of the turbo?

Difficult! You could advertise for a wastegate in the 'Wanted' section of TF or NATO. Someone may have a spare. Personally, I would just wait to find a complete T3. Have you taken a trip to your local Pick-n-Pull junkyard? Not long ago, there was an '88 XR4ti - 60/48 T3 and an '85 Turbo Cougar - 60/63 T3 sitting at my local Pick-n-Pull. You may be surprised at what you find!
