alright, ill have to look around a little bit. Now one more question, if I find a 60/48 T3 thats complete, could I put the 60/63 turbine wheel in place of the 48 w/o any major modifications? Or are the housings different?

And what is NATO? Havent heard of them, well, as far as cars go anyways :-)

Not sure if the housings are different, or not. However, to swap turbine wheels you'd need to dismantle the entire turbo. I'd just stick with whatever you come up with. NATO = North American TurboCoupe Organization - www.turbotbird.com

So, you found a complete T3! 60/63 or 60/48?

Thats a .60..48 by looking at the compressor housing and the T off the compressor housing but it maybe a .60/.63?

Well it came out of a merkur xr4ti, so I'm guessing it's the 60/48. I would rather have the 60/63, but this would be a better place to start than the stock IHI that's on the tc. Also, the turbo supposedly only has 60,000 miles on it too.

And after searching through all the military stuff when I googled NATO, i did find the turbo coupe site. Wow that does look like a good recourse for info about those cars.

so, i got my turbo and am thinking of using the stock intercooler that came on the tc. will it pass enough air for the t3 to work properly, or is it pretty restrictive?

The factory I/C is small but actually flows quite well. On thing though, don't mount it on top of the turbo like the factory does. That totally defeats the purpose. It's basically just a big heat sink mounted there! Mount it out front, behind the grill, in the air stream to take full advantage of it.

i was thinking of making a ram air hod that would work similar to how the tc did, but with a more direct flow. How does that sound?

Ford, in all their infinite wisdom, tend to make bad design decisions from time to time. Distibutor mounted TFI's, exploding Pinto and Explorer gas tanks, etc. Add the turbo mounted I/C to the list! The TC ram air effect helps. Some have even mounted small electric fans to the underside of the I/C. However, the I/C is mounted directly over the hottest part of the engine combined with the fact that it is in an enclosed space. Most of the function of the I/C (cooling the air charge) is lost due to the surrounding heat generated by the very hot engine in the confined engine compartment. The I/C is MUCH more efficient if mounted in front of the grille where it can pick up cool (70*) inrushing air as opposed to sucking in hot engine compartment (180*) air. Very few of the turbo guys mount it in the stock location on a swap. Most convert it to a FMIC, and for good reason!
