Default 1991 mustang LX 2.3L Faulty fuel pump?

Hello!

Hoping somone can help me verify my diagnosis of a faulty fuel pump.

When I first got the mustang there was a slightly high pitch ringing sound comming from the right hand back side of my car, I suspect above the gas tank on the right hand passenger side.

I assumed it was a fault with the fuel pump I payed no attention at the time... the engine seems to run great but the other day it died at an intersection twice. I am guessing the fuel pump was the cause, sometimes while idleing the engine shudders for a while and the muffler bangs agains the underbody for a little while then the fan gets louder and it seems to run a little smoother for a few minutes and the cycle repeats, I guessed this was a fuel pump issue and was planning to pick one up tonight after work.

so I was going to pick up a fuel pump tonight, any heads up would be greatly appreciated!

Kalen.

Check to make sure the inertia switch isn't tripped or partially tripped (back of hatch/trunk area there is a hole with a switch, push the button down.)

Also make sure the pump is getting full power to it from the relay

do you know of a way to tell whether the relay is faulty or not? could you smell fuel in the car? i can smell fuel in the car sometimes while the car is in idle, this leads me to believe it is a pump issue.

I thought my fuel pump was going, there was a squealing sound coming from what seemed like the back passenger side, turned out it was my driveshaft rubbing on my exhaust.

I had no fuel smell. It just would not start some times.I then jiggled the relay and the pump came on.So I replaced it , and no problems since.Sounds to me like you may have a fuel leak some where.

no fuel leaks, replaced pump and filter, there was a pinched relief line, probably the cause of the ringing sound. problem solved now i just have to figure out the major loss in power hehe.
