Default TPS Adjustment

Hey guys, I just replaced the TPS on my car two days ago. One thing I noticed is the old TPS couldn't be adjusted, but the new one definitely can, and needs it.

I understand the voltage should steadily increase from idle to WOT. What is the best way to adjust it? Should I set it while it's idling? If so, does anyone know what it should be set at?

One more question just for curiosity. Why would someone want to adjust the TPS? What would you gain by setting it differently than the manufacturer? Thanks for the help.

As I recall the TPS uses a standard 5V reference, so I would adjust it while the engine is off and the key is on. It should go from slightly above 0V to slightly less than 5V (IE .5V to 4.5V).

Ok, forgive me for my ignorance. So when I'm setting it, I should set it to .5V with the key in the on position? Then as I move the throttle linkage to WOT it should go to 4.5? This is the first time I've ever done anything with the TPS, in fact, I just started learning about it around a week ago. Again, thanks for the help.

Well I finally got around to adjusting the TPS. The lowest it will go is around 1.7V. WTF? As far as I can tell there are no dead spots. What is this going to harm? Should I bring it back??

Hi,

Did you adjust the screw on the throttle body that adjusts where the throttle plate is? If you have adjusted it, it will explain the higher volt reading. Can your TPS be rotated if you lossen the 2 hold down screws? If you can, you should rotate the TPS with KOEO till you get a 1v or lower volt reading after probing the wiring.

Look at this webiste for more info. http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/I..._June2005.html

You will probably experience some driveability issues at low rpm if you leave it like that.

yeah the adjustment screw is all the way back. that's not the problem.

the TPS can be adjusted but the lowest it adjusts is around 1.7V.

that site is the first thing I look at, lol.

umm, what does KOEO stand for?

thanks for the reply

KOEO = Key On, Engine Off

Where in IL are you? Close to Chicago by chance?

Ok, thats what I thought.

I'm actually from Pekin, a somewhat small city close to Peoria. I'm stationed in Oklahoma right now though.
