87 tbird turbo coupe air cleaner question
when i bought the tbird a half year ago, it had a k&n air filter on it.
it also had no cat on it, so when i got one put in it passed emissions with flying colors.
a couple months after that emissions test, i passed a roadside testing van and it flagged me for having outrageously high hc readings. so i had to take the car in for another emissions test.
they found that it passed standard emissions but it failed the fuel evap test. because of some program, i had the option of having them fix the problem for free.
gave them the car and they said the problem is that there is some line that plugs into the air cleaner that is just kind of dangling right now.
is there an option in the aftermarket i can use or am i going to have to try to track down this oem part somewhere¿

There is a line that comes from your air cleaner and goes down to your evap charcoal canister. Probably a 1/2" or 5/8" hose. I'll bet that's the one they're talking about. It vents some of the gas fumes from the canister back into the fresh air stream. The port from the air cleaner is pretty much TC specific and difficult to find.
Go to the HELP section in your local auto parts and look for some kind of plastic port, in the right size, drill a hole in your air cleaner and mount it. Then run a hose from there down to your charcoal canister.....................problem solved!
In addition, there are 2 small 1/4" ports at the front of the canister. 1 connects to a plastic line that runs all the way back to the gas tank. The other runs up to the upper intake manifold and connects to a vacuum port right underneath the 90* bend of the manny. The purpose of that is to suck excess fuel vapors into the intake air stream to reburn them in the combustion chambers.
