Default New guy to the 4 cyl.

Hey guys, a little while back i bought an 89 lx coupe. Its got power everything, along with a crappy auto. I was driving it around the other day and it just died. Everytime i tried to start it back, it would fire up for about 2 seconds and die. I heard the fuel pump kicking on so figured that wasn't the problem. I ended up putting a computer out of a 93 4 cyl 5 speed in it and it started right up. But now it won't idle for very long and it runs rough. Do i need to get a different computer? Thanks

Hi,

Is the CEL light on? That is the first place to start and check for codes.
As for the vehicle stalling, that could be could by several things such as a bad crank sensor, bad egr, bad IACV and so forth.
As for the correct computer for the vehicle, i would deffinately recomend the auto trans computer for your AL4D trans as the shift solenoid drivers will be in that computer and not in the T5 manual trans one.

Hope this helps.

You Put a COMP from a 93 in it and it started!!!!!!!!!!! this is an 89 correct take a pic of the engine bay and post it up.

87-90's had distributors and the 91-93 had coil packs the car shouldn't have even started let alone Idle. completely the wrong ECU.

Yeah i found that out. I got it from a buddy to try out to see if my computer was bad. I told him what was going on after i stuck his in and he was like oh s***! He forgot mine had a distributor and 4 plugs, not 8 plugs. He gave me a 90 model and it runs good now. It was another 5 speed computer, but my trans is already junk, so i can't tell if its not shifting right. And no, i didn't rig that homemade cold air intake on it.

Are you doing a 5spd swap you will notice an instant change in power just because the A4LD's are such junk.
