Default Spark Plugs for 91 Hatchback I-4 NA

This vehicle requires 2 plugs per cylinder. Are special tools needed to remove the plugs and boot wires from the driver's side? Any input would be greatly appreciated--thanks in advance!

A friend suggested that the air intake (driver's side) be removed so the plugs/wires can be easily accessed. Is this the best way?

Is there a gasket or seal beneath the intake plate that needs to be replaced after its removed?
