Default SVO lower control arm ball joints........

Hello, I used to own two SVO Mustangs a few years ago, and I have the lower control arms from an SVO on an 88 Mustang that I still own.

Here is my question. Back when I used to own the SVO's I was an active member on the SVO forums, and I remember the ball joints on the lower arms to be non-removable.

I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to change these things as this was waay back in the 90's when I owned my cars.

Looks like to me that you could just cut them out with a torch, then tread them for a screw in type joint.

Or, maybe someone else has came up with something besides buying an aftermarket arm.

I have read online where some have machined out the old balljoint and replaced it. There was a group that went by the name of JC Performance that would do it all, but that was years ago.

By far the most common is to swap to SN95 suspension. Performs similar to the SVO suspension and opens up wheel and tire choices a great deal.

If that company does still offer that service for $129 a pair with ball joints then its a steal.

I did measure the ball joint cup on the SVO arm yesterday, then measured a threaded sleeve that holds a threaded ball joint, and there would be only about .5" left of the original cup.

I don't know if welding in the threaded sleeve would strengthen up the existing cup after that much metal was taken off.

However, I don't know if there is a smaller sleeve made or not. This is just a sleeve that I have left over from another project.

Well I just got off of that companies facebook site, and it would appear that they don't do this anymore.
