I just replaced the main transmission seals in my 1991 Fox Body, and finished re-attaching the transmission (A4LD, so far as we know.) I have a mystery hose dangling down from the engine with—get this—a hollowed-out wooden dowel stuck in the end. Can anyone tell me where this thing is supposed to plug into?

just a guess, is it a vacuum hose?

Probably, but I have no clue where it's supposed to go.

just re-read your first post, the wooden dowel is hollow? as in air gets in? might have had a screw at one point in there to plug it, Also could be some mod that a previous owner did but didn't clean up very well.
Sorry you haven't gotten much help on this :/

We think air gets in. Unsure of whether a screw once plugged it, but it's about 18-24 inches long, and it would be weird to have it dangle so far and be capped at the far end.

Anyone know if any flexible rubber vacuum hoses go to the A4LD transmission?

I want to say that hose goes to the PCV valve but the pic is to small to see. been a while since I had my 93, so going off memory
