Long Tube vs Short Tube Header sound difference

Long Tube vs Short Tube Header sound difference
Is there a big difference in the sound between short and long tube headers. I know the long tubes breath better and make more horsies but they are so damn expensive. Just trying to figure out if it is worth the extra expense and installation hassle, short tubes seem so much easier. By the way , generally how much more power do the long tubes make over the shorties.

Opinions are like . Mine is, long tubes, which may or may not give a little more power than Shorties, are much more costly. Shorties on the other hand replace your stock exhaust manifolds, and retain the Cat's in their stock location, a plus, if your State has emmision inspections. 5.0 Mag this month has a write-up on long tubes, they dynoed before and after the install......10 HP gain.

I have a V6 but I'll chime in my opinion aswell. I have LT headers and while they do give you added power, they delete the cats (since I have O/R H-Pipe aswell). I'm not too sure about the GT but without the CATS on a V6, it sounds like legit crap at 2,500 RPM. Damn I need to find some CATS that will fit my MAC LT's and MAC O/R Hipe =(

If i were to get headers I'd definitely get LT's. Gains that you get from shorties are nothing compared to LT's even after you do the math with dollars/hp. Only thing is they are not street legal and we get raped here in Cali for having stuff like that on our cars.

A buddy of mine here on the boards has a very similar set to my stang... the differance is that he has LT and I have shorty's... he only dyno's 4 RWHP over me... thats it. You're right though.. the emissions here in CA suck so when I get pulled it's much easier to swap a midpipe to pass a CA Police inspection as apposed to having to swapp headers and a midpipe... thats the reason I went with shorty's over LT

c'mon man, get the LT's. dont get shorties, regret it and then get long tubes later. that would be real expensive. if you are wondering the difference is now, you will regret it if you get shorties. nothing wrong w/ shorties, they are better than stock, they look great in the engine, but i think the LT's are worth it.
