MSD 2 step controller
Anyone out there using a MSD 2 step controller for consistent lauches with a 5 speed? I was at the track yesterday and saw someone using one on his 5.0 mustang. I never got a chance to talk to him , but he won his class, as he was able to run his number, or close to itall the time. I'm wondering what everyones experience is with this set-up, as I either need to work on my driving skills or upgrade my ignition to use a two step as my launches are not consistent. I ran anywhere from 12.70's to a 13.90 in the 1/4 mile. My 60' times were sucking as I could not hook well yesterday. Just kept blowing off the micky's at the line.

I do know it's made for MSd's ignition box though. I would be willing to buy the whole ignition system. I'm wondering if you can use your stock distributor though. It would make the swap a little cheaper.

dinner? its noon... lol good ****...
the three step doesnt say n e thing about needing an ignition box, but it doesnt say it doesnt... on msd's site its listed at an acc. under their box's... so i would think u'd need a box for it.

RE: MSD 2 step controller
Thanks dime! Just got finished mashing a burger on the grille. From what I can tell the 2 & 3 step need the 6AL module for it to work. I'm looking at Holcomb Motorsports catalog. And being that it works with the TFI ignition, I'm wondering if you can still use the stock dizzy? I'm going to try and find out though. If anyone else knows, please chime in here.
5.0 Stanger,
The 2-step MSD module is nothing more than a rev limiter so you can set your launch rpm. I'm running a 5 speed and just can't seem to do any two launches the same. I have yet to duplicate my 1.61 60' time since I changed my clutch. The king cobra grabs harder than the stock clutch did and I either blow the tires off the line or bogg the motor if I leave at anything under 3K. The guy I watched yesterday at the track had a two step as confirmed by his good friend, and I saw him run a 13.00, 13.05, 13.02, and a 13.04. Everytime he launched, he had minimal tire spin and never bogged his motor. My car liked to leave at 4K with the stock clutch and would just flat rip your head off. Just having a hard time trying to duplicate this.
