Default 331 vs. 373 gears

Hello,

I have a 2007 Ford Mustang GT,5 speed manual. It has Superchips flashpaq, JLT CAI, CDC Skaker,CDC Chin Spoiler, CDC Foose Hood.

I am considering 373 gears and would like to know what the advantages and disavantages are? I heard you lose some of your top end?

My current gears are 331...I primarily drive highway. Car is a daily driver...

Thanks,

Steve

Hey there,

Go with the 3.73's. You will loose a little top end - but since you dont drive up there anyway (NOBODY does) its not a huge deal. You will loose a couple hundred RPM at freeway speeds, but will gain a noticble boost in pull from the bottom end.

Because our cars are drag limited, you might actually gain some top end speed.

Okay...Thanks....Another question...So going from 60-80 mph in 4th or 5th gear on the highway for passing will be quicker or slower?

get the 3.73's or even 4.10's are ok for daily driver. with my 4.10's when cruising, its not that noticable, but when you get on it the accelleration is much better. the pro's devinately out way the cons. you may lose 1 or 2 mpg's but who cares.

Quicker. You'd be revving higher, so you'd be closer to your powerband.

I have the 3.73's with a 5 speed as well, you will feel a BIG difference at Hwy speeds as compared to the 3.31's.

Consider getting a new differential also. They are about 400-450$ and a great mod for future building. There won't be any extra labor since they have toremove the diff from the car anyway. Less $$ when you have to rebuild it later IF you have plans to make more power or going to the track. I'm in the process of buying parts for a new rear end build and will be replacing the diff at the same time.

The 3.73's will be great.
