Aluminum driveshaft (did search.....need more opinions)
Well, after looking at my recent Summit Racing catalog... I might hold off on the driveshaft idea.
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku I just don't know how complete this assembly is. What kind of differential/gears does it have? Or is it all empty? The price doesn't seem bad, but the driveshaft is some 600-700 extra. Weighing in at 14.8 lbs.

Spydershaft would be my #1 choice. FYI, the steeda shaft is a tapered version of the spydershaft and is made by Leonard Racing Products (The same company that makes the spydershaft). If I ever planned on lowering my car, I'd have gone with the steeda version. I just plain don't like adapter plates. They seem like an afterthought. Replacing the pinion flange makes for a complete job.

"This is the shaft that Ford should have installed, it's the real deal. The 2005-2007 V8 Mustang was dealt a bum deal in the drive shaft department. It left the factory with a 48lb 2 piece shaft that was not only heavy but also had a hanger bearing that moves up and down violently when you stomp on the gas pedal. This is our own designed 3-1/2" 17lb drive shaft that is "completely different" that any other shaft on the market today. Most other manufacturers are making a 4" shaft that has a clearance issue, when the car is lowered or if there is more than 2 people in the car the 4" tube will hit the floor (not good), Our all new 3-1/2" shaft does not have those issues at all. This shaft is designed for 900HP and had solid joints (made to go 50,000 miles with out making a mess under the car). The Big news about the DSS shaft is it has an internal DAMPER designed to reduce the Harmonic vibration these cars seem to be born with. We also have designed an aluminum plate to bolt on to the rear flange, this doesn't sound like much but considering some other company's are selling a similar shaft that has a new pinion Flange that has to be to be changed think about this. You remove the factory installed flange and install the one supplied sound simple right? Not Really this is a "crush collar" type Differential meaning this, if the flange is taken off the crush collar needs to be replaced because it's what sets the pinion depth. The rear needs to then be set up by a professional (not exactly simple), with the DSS shaft all you need to do is bolt the aluminum plate and install the shaft. This kit comes with everything to make this something that can be done it you own garage or very simple for your local speed shop. Dampened shafts are in very limited quantities so order your now !!!!!!
Our Price: $799.99"
This driveshaft is expensive too.
Spydershaft here--no probs, and its a well built unit. I'd rather replace the pinion flange and have a conventional style flange, not just the small six bolts that hold the stock unit in. Another plus, is with an adaptor, you'll be adding additional weight(I.E. losing part of the benefit of a alum. driveshaft).
I have a Shaftmaster 4" DS with an adapter. I have no clearance issues, noise or vibration plus its priced right and customer service is excellent.

IMO, that's not nessacarily true. The driveshaft with the pinion flange would be longer than the driveshaft with the adapter, right? Not sure of answer myself, but it does make sense. They should be very close in weight.

No adapter???? Here's what the sight says:
