Default Best Lopey cam 4 a Bolt on 302-????

Here is my situation-- i replaced my water pump and timing chain cover about 3 months ago. yesterday i developed a oilleek which looks like its coming from the front crank seal or somewhere close to that!!! bummer. so now since i'm going to be taking the front of the engine off and i need to replace the rear manifold seal also i would like to put a different cam in. i'm not looking for huge HP or taking it to the track but i have always loved a nice cam lope without destroying performance. i have an edlebrock duel plane with a edlebrock 600cfm and some Tri-y headers. Any Cams i can use just the way the engine is that lope nice???

MY CAR !!!!

Lopey cams come from big cams. If you stick one in just for the sound you'll end up with an engine that has poor performance and horrible mileage.

Don't be scared...drop in CompCam's Thumper series cam. You'll love it.

you will need the expensive roller lifters for the thumper, get a comp cams high energy 268h cam, it will have a lope in a 289 yet still give decent low end, be easy on the valve train and still work with power brakes and the stock converter and give the same or better fuel economy. You have to remember big cams need other things to run right, compression, gears, converters, vacuum cans, valve springs etc.... you cant just stick a big lopey cam in a car with no other changes and expect it to run, most of the time it will be slower than stock and suck down fuel twice as fast. The high energy cams still work great in stock engines and they are usually around 100.00 bucks, you wont have any valve clearance probs either as the lift is .456, you can use your stock springs and you will see a very nice power increase from about 2000 to 5500 and you will have your disired "lope".

If you don't care about performance and just want the sound find an old crane fireball cam. That's about all they were designed for was sound.

htwhlz67... True. But, it's worth it. Yes, I was told "If you do that, you'll need subframe connectors". Made them myself. "You'll need to add fron torque boxes" Did that too. "You'll need a 9" rear" Did that. "You'll need better heads" Ok, bolted up some AFR's. I wanted a cam that had a lope to it... so this is the route I took. It performs as badass as it looks and sounds..

Screw Flat tappet hydralic cams. I am going to be pulling my engine agai, to clean it out again, all because this is camshaft #2 that has failed. Everything has been done correctly: proper break in, vavle adjustment, etc. The first was an Edelbrock Performer RPM which lost 12 of the 16 cam lobes, and the second was a Comp XE284H cam which lost one. The thing is though, it only takes one to f*ck up the engine. I am going to have more time and money in these two errors than what I couldve bought a thumper cam for and a new set of retrofit roller lifters. In my opinion, it isn't worth the risk. If you want to change the cam, go with a roller. Otherwise, leave it alone b/c you may end up with a bigger headache than what its worth to you in the end. It happened to me.

the xe268h seems 0.5+ on the valves. would you really put that on a stock head ???
