Haynes manual says to remove the radiator before lifting the engine out. Is this really necessary for clearance?? Also... it sounds like its easier to pull motor/tranny as one??

If you remove the hood then removing the radiator won't be necessary. And if you're removing the trans as well, then take the engine and trans out as one. If you're not doing anything with the trans then just leave it in.

nah im not touching the trans except for a new throwout bearing. If i leave the trans in, will i be able to slide the engine forward enough off of the input shaft of the trans and still clear the radiator??

Take out the radiator it doesnt take much to destroy it. I had to replace my radiator because I tried to save 15 minutes.

I agree w/Ehmark, one swing of that engine destroys the radiator.

I would say remove the radiator as well... If youre taking out the motor, removing the radiator isnt anything but a walk through the park.

i thought i remember reading about a heavy duty throwout bearing that everybody said to use, but i cant find the thread... anybody know what that would have been?

In the time it will take you to get to the bolts holding the tranny on the motor, it will be much easier to pull it out as 1. Every time I pull mine, I pull everything. One thing I do is this, take drive shaft off at diff, zip tie it(or what ever it takes so it doesn't come out of tranny) so you don't make a mess with all the fluid. +1 on removing the radiator, it's simple to pull and a lot less frustating then having to replace it.

So i've gotten to the point where i'm about to remove the radiator, but i'm not sure that it would be worth it, because it looks like the brake proportioner(i think thats what it is) would still be in the way. See pic below.I really dont want to remove that, but is there something that i'm missing here?
