Default Douglas Performance GT-H Tires...Opinions Needed

I was at walmart yesterday looking through their special order catalogue for tires for my new wheels (17x9 Black 03 Cobras). The guy came up to me and said he had one of these Douglas Performance GT-H tires that he would sell to me for 70$ since they dont carry them anymore. He told me to call around and find 3 more.

I did just that and secured 3 more tires (1 for 70 and 2 others for 100 each). They are 245x45x17. I purchased one of them and was going to purchase the other 3 today until I went on google and found all these horror stories on the first page of search. Can someone give me their opinion on the tires? I mean Im getting them for $340 when they told me they used to cost $145.

Im willing to spend the money for some nice tires. I went to wal mart because they tend to give really good deals and I can special order the same tires out of the catalogue that are available at other tire shops.

So my question is, am I getting the right size? And am I getting the right tire? Or do I need to return the one I got and buy 4of a different kind? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I use to work there. You dont want those tires. They are the right size, but the quality sucks.

I would have to agree with Stang here. I could not find a homepage to get ANY info on tires. Found only the horror stories you found already. Remember, tires are THE #1 COMPONENT OF CONTROLLING YOUR CAR... don't go cheap!!!! [:'(]

Look at your own sig, and ask yourself if you want to go withjunk tires. Spend money equal to the quality of your ride, and get some good tires

Thanks for the responses. Do you know if I can return the tire at any walmart or does it have to be the one I bought the tire from?

So i should be looking for 245x45x17? Should I keep looking at walmart or order off online? (or other store)

Any tire suggestions? I have no idea what to be looking for. I want to spend $150 tops. I need performance all year round also (daily driver).

My experience is just go to a good local tire installation place and have
them purchase and install. If you purchase them and have them shipped to
you, the shipping alone will off-set any savings you would get by finding a
good deal. You will also find that you will get better service from a shop
if you purchase from them. As far as shops, look for a good local
independent shop if you can. I DON'T recommend Sears, K-Mark, Costco or big
name shop that includes tire sales as only a part of their business.

Give them your budget and what you would like out of your tires, and let
them help you out. Steer away from ANY shop that says "X" brand is the best
tire no matter what you want it to do. Or.... "Those suck, get these..."
type of things. In general, stay as low a treadwear rating number as you can
afford. The lower the number, the softer the tire, and hence better
traction. Again, this is a general statement. Not ALL lower numbers will
perform better than higher number tires. My PS2's are 220 and found them to
be far better cornering tire than Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's (rated at 280
treadwear). The Eagles DON'T like to turn, and don't hold a line nearly as
well, as they "creep" off line during hard cornering.

I just copied/paste this from a previous post to fobra. Not specific to your post, but should answer your questions

After going tire shopping I found some tires that I liked. They are BF Goodrich g-Force T/A for $165 a tire. After going home and thinking about it, I decided to just keep the tires I have on my wheels now and put them on my new wheels. They are Dunlop SpSport 5000s. They have around 50/60% tread left so I figured they are worth keeping since the prices I found on them were around$160-190a tire (had no idea since they came on the car). I was going to sell them to a friend for $300 (with stock wheels) but figured its not worth it since that wont even buy me 2 of the g-Forces. opinions?

Sounds like a good idea

Get the most of your existing tires, and save your budget. You will also be able to determine how the tires fit onto new rims and will help you decide on profile and width of replacements.
