Default Mustang 5.0 powered Volvo...

Hi guys... while my very first car in high school was a '69 Grande I must admit I am not a huge Mustang fan.. however I thought you would all get a kick out of what I bought last week:

1987 Volvo 740 GLE but.... The motor is a new long block from Ford Racing. was put in 14k miles ago, so no issues there. It has Ford Racing stainless steel headers and a E303 cam.. still passes smog SUPER clean. It has the T5 tranny out of a Mustang as well. Stock rear end can take it just fine. Headliner is falling out of it, hood and trunk are faded and that's about it.... it looks totally stock, just a slightly lower stance.. I just need to replace the Hurst T shift handle with something less conspicous. I just had the downpipe on the drivers side replaced a few days ago (it was hitting the original cross member mounts on right hand turns under power) and now, it doesn't! Dynoed at 220rwhp and 245ft lbs torque. California smog legal!!

Next order of business will be to change out the Boge shocks for some Bilsteins or some Konis.. it already has IPD sway bars and lowering springs, but the PO put in Boge shocks as a cost saving measure. They are 4 years old and I am gonna replace them. Need to extend the intake tube and build a heat shield so it doesn't suck up hot exhaust air. Other than that, mechanically it is pretty well sorted out. Gonna put on some Yokohama AVS tires on it as well.. I am not into drag racing, so no slicks or anything.. I just want a mean, stock looking sleeper..

Even has the 100k and 200k mile badges from Volvo on either side of rear plate (car has 229k.) I gotta say, this is THE most fun car for $3500 I have ever bought!!

Lol very nice, first 5.0 Volvo I've ever heard of. 3500 bucks for a 5.0 Volvo with 229 miles though?? Seems like it could be a bit cheaper lol, but it's a pretty new engine.

Well the previous owner spent over $6500 on parts alone to do the conversion. Granted the car itself is only worth about $800 with the stock motor. Even with the high mileage, the car still drives great.... this would cost you over $7000 to duplicate, and that's before paying for labor, if you couldn't do it yourself.

Has dual exhaust.. but looks totally stock... goes from both headers to two cats then to two flowmasters and then comes out the single stock location with two pipes, just like the original muffler did.. so really, from the outside it looks like a stock exhaust... I like things sedate.

it already has dual exhaust..... true dual exhaust.. but as I mentioned it is routed out where the stock muffler came out.. so the two pipes look like muffler tips from the stock muffler!!

Awhile back I read an article in Car and Driver about a guy that owned a company that did 5.0 Volvo conversions... the article featured a black wagon if I remember right... sweet car and have fun with it
