A dirty fuel filter has nothing to do with a fuel smell. Do you smell it while the car is running? Is the smellcoming out of the exhaust pipes or is it a fuel leak?

check the box adjacent to the smog pump. i believe that box is used to absorb fuel vapors and if something came unplugged then that MAY be your problem.

Yeah 92 Hatch, i smell it while its running, seems like maybe its coming from the exaust... When I sit in the drivers seat while the car is in the Garage (with the door open...Wanted to clairify that incase of a smart ass remark from anyone) I can smell it and when I get home from work and turn the car off, there is still some odor for a few minutes... I'll check that box "vtec", that would be nice if it was that simple... Not my luck though....

The guy I bought it from a few years ago said that the gas smell came from the high flow cats that are in there. Personally it doesn't sound right to me...

My car stinks bad sometime. I think no cats. might have somthing to do with it- that and the hole in the rear hatch from where the pump was installed probably needs sealed up better- And the bottom of the door seals are gone......i need to just fix a few things thought that would help

Im running flows w/ no cats and I smell a little gas while in the
garage

but if it hurts your eyes, one of your oxygen sensors is probably out
been there done that

run a computer diagnostic, it will come out

having no cats will increase exhaust / gas smell but it shouldnt be as bad as you say. You may be running rich. That coupled with the high flow cats would cause that. Or you could actually have a leak somewhere. Maybe bad o-ring near the injectors, leak in return line, bad charcoal canister, etc.

But if its coming from your exhaust like you say, check to make sure you're not running too rich.
