Default Intake Manifold Differences

Alright, something's apparently wrong with the search feature, because I don't believe that I got no results when I searched for "upper intake manifold" "intake manifold" and finally just "intake", but that's what happened so here goes:

I came to an abrupt realization today that the '86 upper intake manifold that came with my engine doesn't fit the '94 throttle body I just got in the mail. A quick search through yahoo said that the '86 UIM was different, but didn't specify how, and went on to say that the stock throttle body could still be used (this was on a thunderbird/cougar site). Which I find hard to believe because the hole in the center is tiny, and the studs are off by centimeters.

Basically I just need to know what's compatible with what - Will an '87 and up UIM bolt to the the '94 throttle body and the '86 lower? Do I need both UIM and LIM to be '87 and up? Or am I going to get restricted to '94-'95 only?

Yes, it'd be nice to buy a whole new shiny intake manifold, like a BBK or Trickflow, or Edelbrock, but my last name's not Hilton and so far none of my lottery numbers are hitting. What about a '97 and up Explorer intake?

All you need is an elbow adapter, blue oval industries has em, http://www.blueovalindustries.com/pr...p?pid=99011426It will accept up to a 70mm throttle body, stock is 60.

I have read and heard from a friend that owns a 86 gt that that yearupper intake is the worst, and at the very least you should use a 87-93. If you have the money the used explorer intakes are great, I have one on my car and its making over 300rwhp.

Yeah, it looked pretty restrictive, but I'm going to have my hands full money-wise getting everything into the '94 and making it work right. For now I've just ported the crap out of it, and I'll have to make due, b/c right now Explorer intakes are almost universally going for like, $200. Once everything's in and working, (including the A/C and everything) and it passes emissions, it only takes like 14 bolts to swap that Cobra intake on. Of course, if someone's got an Explorer or Cobra intake for a HELLUVA good price, like $60-80 plus shipping, then I'll snap it up like I've done all the other stuff so far. But now that I know what they're selling at, I'll be able to recognize that awesome deal when it comes along. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, because it would be nice to have that piece located before the engine goes together. I'm already trying to resign myself to paying *shudder* RETAIL price for a Steeda #19 cam.
