Default RE: glowing headers after cam install.

I just did a new intake, and when I took it off, at TDC my rotor pointed towards the runner on my intake, almost straight back relative to the car.

to find TDC I just took out the #1 spark plug and put my finger over it while rotating the crank clockwise to feel when it is in compression stroke, and then go till the timing mark lined up with the 0 on my balancer.
That is correct. When you get that mark lined up to the 0, remove the dizzy cap again and see where the rotor is pointing, there should be a "1" on the cap. The firing order is 13726548 counter-clockwise.
If it's not pointing at the #1, remove the dizzy and retry until you get it right. It's not that difficult. Just position the TFI module on the dizzy in a way that you can rotate it after the engine starts to adjust your timing with a light. Don't forget that the little plug in module that hangs from the distributor wiring(can't think of what it's called)needs to be removed from the plug to set the base ignition timing to 10*, then plugged back in.
If the engine still won't run, tear it down again to see if you left any vacuum lines off and to check your timing gear marks again. There are a bunch of vacuum connections under the upper intake, make sure none are leaking.

what do you mean don't worry about it, my headers get soo hot they glow, I could light a cigarette from a foot away they're so hot.
I will have to take off my valve cover and make sure it is on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke.
I might have it firing on the exhaust stroke.
if thats possible.
