Nothing bad about being in wot in od. The thing with the aod is you really don't want to be at wot when the shift takes place. Basically you don't want it trying to slam into 4th & it's really kinda bad to do it into 3rd aswell. stock aod's are lockup in 3rd & 4th gear, when they lock up that means that the clutches themselves take the force of the shift. Even if you install a super duty band it's still a problem. Nothing wrong with being in any of the gears full throttle, just be careful with the shifting.

If you're just racing i'd recommend staying in 1st & let the car do the 2nd gear shift automatically. will help the life a little bit too

No, its a 4 speed.
For some reason Ford designed the valvebody in a way that doesnt allow selecting 2nd on the shifter.
The shifter is 1,3,4.
To hit second manually youll need to start in 1st, shift to D and then quickly shift back down to 1.

NO SORRY YOUCAN SELECT SECOND MANUALY BY SHIFTING UP AND THAN BACK DOWN INTO FIRST IT HOLDS SECOND TILL SHIFT INTO 3RD. THAT IS HOW YOU HOLD EACH GEAR IN A AOD. SO HOW AM I GANNA GET MY CAR TO USE OD TO GAIN SPEED IF I HAVE THE THROTTLE A QUATER THE WAY DOWN IT DWN SHIFTS INTO 3RD.

Its supposed to do that. OD is mainly just for cruising.
If you were driving a 5 speed car you would normally downshift into 4th to pass somebody, right?
Same idea here except the tranny does the shifting itself.

I use 5th to pass sometimes, but only if i have a long time to pass & dont feel like shifting. It takes quite a while to pass someone in 5th lol.

so if i put my 89 AOD in D it won't go 1,2,3? I will have to always manually shift it just so it will go to 2?
