OK, so I get the Edelbrock Performer RPM total power package installed on my 72 Coupeand droveit for less than 5 miles. I was having all kinds of fun enjoying the 6000 RPM rev limiter on the MSD 6AL. When I reached my destination (less than 5 miles) the oil light came on and stayed on and the rocker arms began to clatter (due to loss of oil pressure). Well, to get to the point, the oil pump ate itself alive.Even after installing a new high volume pump and flushing the engine out the oil pressure still kinda sucks and the lifters are full of metal shavings I assume b/c they wont pump up and adjust right. So, the bearings are getting worse and worse and it runs like crap now. Im planning on pulling it out to have it hot tanked and cleaned out, but I cant decide whether to just replace all the bearings (I found the crank to be just fine when I pulled the main caps off while changing the pump) and leave it a 302, or to go ahead and buy a stroker kit. Im definatly leaning towards the stroker kit, but which do y'all like better, the 331 kit or the 347 kit? I have heard the 331 has a better rod ratio and will wind up a lot faster than the 347. Let me know your opinions. Thanks!

Depends on where you want to make power and what you want to do with it.

Who cares how much horsepower it has, all that matters is how fast it goes!
13.20's with 2.25-2.30 60's, 40+ year old suspension sucks!
Best trap 107.11mph, we'll see what the new intake/carb setup does.
12.80 at 110.5mph NHRA DA corrected
from what i hear, because i thought the same thing, the 347 rod ratio's have gotten a lot better these days, i am personally going with the 347 because of the cubic inches, now you probably wont, and cant get over 100,000 miles off of a build like that (but that is a lot of driving) but i figure as long as it last a couple seasons of abuse why not for the extra power
See, the engine only has like 7,000 miles on it if even that. the block was bored at the previous rebuild so there is not really a wearridge at the top of the block. If i stroke it, the only extra work i would have to do would be clearance the block and maybe a very very slight ridge reaming. I just figure that if im gonna do all that work why not go bigger and better while im that far into in? But still, the question is a 331 or a 347 better? The car is really heavy (its a 72 coupe), its got a C4 that will have a 2800 stall converter when I pull the motor, and aTCI valve bodyand billet servo. It has the edelbrock Performer RPM cam that's rated for 1,500 to 6,500 RPM, and has a 650 CFMBarry Grant vacuum secondary Speed Demon carb. The car is by no means a daily driver (ive only put about 6000 miles on it in 3 years) but it is a street/show car. I may occasionally take it to the strip to run it, so I will eventually replace the 2.70 gear with a 3.55 or 3.73. Now, with all that said, what are your opinions about which is better for what im going to be doing?

347 is better!! now I know people will flame me for that comment..[sm=badbadbad.gif][sm=icon_flaming.gif][sm=guilty.gif]but there is no replacement for displacement....and I just got done rebuilding a rear in a 95 stang that has a 347 with close to 100k on it and no oil burning at all

Thats a nice kit and all, but im a college student and dont have that much extra cash ( I just spend $3,300 on all the parts listed in the first thread, plus a few more things). I can get a kit off of ebay with all new high quality brand name parts for $700 to the door. If i get a kit im gonna go with them b/c of the price tag. It comes with forged rods & pistons, a lightweight cast crank, and rings and bearings.
