Default what year diesel ranger has the pilot bearing to use a 2.3l t5 with a 5.0??

i know theres a pilot bearing from a diesel ford ranger like 83? that fits a 5.0 and the 2.3l t5 input shaft but i dont know what year it was.im also wondering if the 5.0 input shaft will fit on the 2.3l out put inside the t5. that might be a better option. i got a good t5 for next to nothing and theres guys who run them with 5.0s so im planning on using it till i can find a decent 5.0 one or rebuild my 2 other cores.anyone know the specs of hand on a 89 t5 2.3l tranny?
i pulled up this spec sheet so i dont get why the 2.3l t5 handles less is it just the inputshaft size or are the gears cheaper? 240ft/lbs and 265ft/lbs isnt alot of differance so i dont see why this should be a problem with a stock 5.0 motor with basic bolt ons like exhaust. and the thing is these trannys are alot easier and cheaper to source than a 5.0 one which is always beat on much worse by a motor with alot more power.and if the 2.3T had the same rating on its t5 it kinda makes me wonder. ive heard of people running these for a long time with a 5.0L .

who all has a 2.3l t5 on here? and how long have you had it? what are your driving habits?

i was looking around and the 86 gt motor made 200hp and 285ft/lbs exceeding the t5 rating of 265ft/lbs that was in that year car, seems kinda stupid to put a t5 rated under the output.

as far as the year ranger you are correct, there is info floating around here with the part # too, il look through my reciepts to see if i can find the part# because im using a 4cyl turbo t-5 behind my v8, its been holding up fine for several months, my v8 t-5 puked and honestly i really like the 4 cyl trans gears, more like a road racer, winds up much quicker. friend of mine has been pounding on his for going on 2 years now with no problems but he is a much better stick guy than i am so time will tell. as far as switching internals im pretty sure thats a no go because all the ratios are diff inside.

yea mjr46 just confirmed the input cant be switch. so i just need to find out the year for the pilot bearing and ill be good. i wont be beating on mine and the car isnt going to see any track time so it should last me no problem. im pulling my old t5 out right now.
i heard some crazy talk a while back on this subject, a guy said he just left the 5.0 pilot bearing.is there a reason to do that?

83 ford ranger with a 2.2l diesel is what you need. and change the pilot bearing! if you just stab a 4 cyl t-5 in its place the input shaft will wobble big time and lead your trans to an early demise. i cant think of one good reason to leave the wrong pilot bearing in.

ive had one for almost 2 years and 1 year of 125 shot on it and she still works like a champ! Granted it grinds into 3rd when its cold out but still takes the beating and has not left me sit yet! the only thing that sucks aboot them is that they have a closer gear ratio and you spin higher rpms in 5th but your quicker out of the hole!

In mid 82-84 the Ranger had a 2.2 diesel. in 85 and 86 the Ranger had a 2.3 diesel. I don't know what pilot bearing you need.

Im thinking of putting a wc 2.3 t5 from 88 turbocoupe behind 5.0. It handles over 300ft lbs, right where I need it for now.
All I have to do is to change to this bearing and it will work? I thought you had to put an adapter on the input shaft.
Ace did you do this, and what bellhousing did you use?
Any help is appreciated, my project is on hold right now cause Im loking for 5.0 and I can find one locally that doesnt need rebuilt.
