I already have a harness out of a 95 GT. What all do I need to do to convert it over to a distributor?

theres a sensor where the distributor goes on the explorer engine. remove the sensor and place the distributor in its place. i did this swap about 5 years ago but put a lunati cam in it cause the explorer cam isn't that great for a performance car. your gonna make good power with the gt-40p's. mine put down 409rwhp with a 10psi vortech. also theres a coolant sensor that goes in the lower manifold for the mustangs. the explorer doesn't have this so it has to be drilled and tapped. good luck.

Will all the other sensors and such match up with the mustang wiring harness? I really appreaciate your guys help. How hard is it to drill and tap that sensor? What cam would be the best to get horsepower with? I dont want to go huge drastic but mid two hundreds would be really nice.

Do you have the computer? Do you have all of the accessory brackets? Also I have noticed in the mustang catalog that the 6 cylinder has a different fan than the V8, I don't know what the difference is.

i forgot to mention the gt40p's aren't drilled for smog either so i don't know if thats going to affect you or not. the e-303 cam is about the best emissions cam that you can get. i used the lunati 51014 cam cause i thought it was the best for these heads. don't forget valve springs, if i remember correctly the explorer revs to like 5200rpm. aftermarket valve springs will make sure its ok to rev that thing to 6200rpm. if you use the same cam i did with springs expect around 250-270rwhp with the correct tune.

It may not be a bad idea to buy a whole gasket set to be sure you are leak free.

i'm sure some of the sensor can be reused like the iac, tps, and oil pressure sending unit (although it's not a real sensor the older one from your v6 is better). the best way to find out is to take the mustang engine harness and start plugging things in. the coolant sensor is easy to drill and tap cause first its aluminum and second there already a spot for it. the throttle body from the explorer is a 65mm and can be used but the throttle bracket that opens the butterfly won't work. it has to be cut off and the one from a mustang has to be tack welded back on. don't forget you'll also need a throttle body spacer. the oil filter setup is also different on the explorers. if you wanna use that setup on your sn-95 you need to make sure it'll clear the mustangs chassis. i know that it won't work on a fox body.

I really appreciate all the help guys. No I dont have the computer yet nor the accessory brackets but that will come with time. This isnt currently my daily driver but it will become it once its done. When you say the heads are not drilled for smog do you mean the smog pump? Do you really have to have the smog issue??

Sorry to rebring up an old thread but I got my hands on an upper lower intake MAF and everything for pretty cheap from a 94 GT. Should I just use the lower intake from the 94 so that I dont have to drill out the explorer one? Should I keep the explorer upper intake or is it no better than the mustang upper intake?
