^^ your distributor is installed incorrectly... OR your harmonic balancer is spun slightly

I was always told a car needs timing off the line to leave. The further it gets down the track, timing needs to be taken away. Less timing is where you get your MPH.

how do you gather that?

I just read from another forum that I have to disconnect the end of that black plug, not the grey one while I check the timing, so I will try that

that is the wrong plug, the other is the plug.

I just replaced my balancer. It had slipped. It also wobbled.

Check it running and see if you notice a slight wobble.

Mine was showing 11 degrees when we took it off. It was on 8 when we put the new one on.

Also, you do have the light on the number 1 wire close to the plug?

I have it on the wire that leads to the #1 I think yes. its the plug that is on the left, if your looking down at the engine, on the left closest to you.

but I took the black plug out, and the car was reading 10* , started up bad and ran slower. put it back in, the car was back at its @ 19* and was making me smile.

I dont beleive my balancer is bad.. it doesnt seem to wobble..

(trimdrip, the grey plug when you unplug it, the car dies. I was told by another forum that it is the black plug next to it that you disconnect)

I think I understand how to set timing now. The car runs really good now. Im curious if I were to advance it a couple degrees how it would run!

Get the car warm. Pull the BLACK plug out, DONT LOSE IT. losen the distibitor just enough to move it, set up your timing gun, check base timing (base timing mean's with the black plug out) if it is set at 10*, turn the distribitor till it is reading 13-15* (you can climb under the car and mark 10*-15* and 20* with a whiteout pen to make it easyer to see) then snug your distribitor back down (check timing again to be sure you dident knock it out of place) put the pigtail back in (black plug) and go run the hell out of the car.

my car run's best with 15-19* without nitrous, but at higher elevation where im at, car's seem to like more timing.

i noticed a big difference in low down power when i bumped my timing up the very first time.

good luck

i run 13-14* for a 100shot, and 10* for a 150shot. for a 125-150 you can run 10-12*
