So I am back in the 5.0 game. I sold my 91 lx a few years back and regret every minute of it. I just picked up an 89 lx and have to start over. I am looking to start off with a 331/347 and am wondering who you would recommend getting it from. I am looking to be at about the 600hp mark with the help of a 150 shot. My old motor was from central coast mustang but they dont seem to be around anymore. I have looked at chp and dss and like some of there stuff. Anywhere else you recommend I look?

Zero replies, so I'll throw my 2 cents in. I would contact Woody @ Fordstrokers.com before anyone else. You do know your probably looking at an aftermarket block and all forged internals ($$$) to handle those kind of numbers?. A stock block won't hold up very long @ 600hp.
If you have the money an aftermarket 302 block would be a better choice, a 347 is lighter and will outperform a 351. If you go 351 then you might as well build a 408.

Im undecided if I want to spend the extra money on the block or not. I was thinking I may just back the power down a little because im not that excited about stepping up to a more expensive block. I want to do low 11's and think I can get away with keeping the stock block with forged internals. I have just been out of the performance game for awhile and was trying to find a good place to get the engine from.

Your goals can be met with a factory block / 347. Don't waste your money on a forged crank, the factory block will split before the cast crank lets go. If you don't want to wait for the time it takes Woody to turn out an assembled short block, he has a do-it-yourself kit that has everything you need including a fully machined roller block, all you do is assemble and check the clearances. It will save you a few hundred bucks, and it can be shipped in a few days.

I saw that on his website. I know there are alot of people running the 500+ hp mark with the factory block. I have talked to people that say definitely get an a/m block and others say stock block will be fine. What are the stock internals capable of holding? Im not in a hurry so I dont mind waiting. I emailed him last night and was impressed with the service I received. Its hard to find that nowadays in the performance industry. Everyone expects you to know everything already! Whats the r302 block capable of handling?
