Default Electric fan over stock fan

Is it worth it to get an electric fan . Is the horsepower gain a big difference. And is which fan is more efficient. I was looking at a Black Magic Xtreme.

not alot of HP, 1-2, but it is much better then a fan clutch if you have a/c

Like stated above not a big hp mod but definitely worth it imo. I put one on my supercharged 91 a few years back and that thing could suck small animals through the grille! Definitely pulls more air than the factory.

not a huge gain but I LIKE being able to cool my ride down quick inbetween runs and that's something a mech fan can't offer

in a recent issue of 5.0 magazine they had a tech article were they put a 95 ford contour v6 dual stock electric fan into a foxbody and it worked really well and its about half the price of a kit from steeda or one of those

First you must realize the gain is a trade off. You free up the drive to the water pump which drives the mechanical fan but when the fan is running you load up the alternator pulley.

Now the good news, the loaded alt is seldom and only when needed.
With a good radiator and a good automatic controller. The fans should only run when the AC clutch is engaged or when you drive slow/stop and you have no air flow through the grille. Even during that condition it's only running for about a minute.

During warm up, cruising and highway the electric fans are off.

The cooling effect is a better gain than the hp. I would go get a taurus or a mark VIII fan though instead of buying one of the expensive kits. Although it is a good idea to also to a 130 amp alt too after doing one of those. I don't know how much more of a load the aftermarket kits have but the mark fan pulls around 32 amps constant when running. That with your a/c and lights isn't going to last very long if that alt doesn't get upgraded.
