wouldnt I need 2 lifters to check intake and exhaust and can i use a solid lifter on a E cam I have only messed with roller cams

2 lifters will save you time. If you only have one lifter, just check the one valve. Then move the lifter and check the other valve.

Using the solid lifter on a hydraulic cam for checking purposes is fine. The reason you are using solid is to mimick a hyd lifter full of oil at speed. Even a hyd lifter will slowly bleed down if you are just rolling the engine over by hand.

ok last question it may sound dumb but i want to be sure do I need a mechanical flat tappet lifter or a hydraulic flat tappet lifter or does it matter

if your cam is a roller you'd need a mechanical (solid) roller lifter.

like i said in my first post - it's a good idea to disassemble and clean your old lifters before reusing anyways, so just break em down, clean em up, and use one of those with the pushrod bottomed out in the lifter.

the only tools you'll need to go thru them are a bench vise and a small screwdriver to pop the clips out.

easy as pie

here is a pic to show you wtf im talking about. i used a piece of an old pushrod to compress everything down so i could pop the clip back in. if you dont have one you can use a small bolt instead.
