Need help identifying a factory Cobra T5 transmission
I normally lurk in the classic forums but thought I might more response to this question in the 5.0 forums. I'm looking to put a T5 in my 65 Mustang. I've found a used one for sale that is supposedly out of a 93 Cobra. However, the id tag is missing and the bearing retainer is aluminum not steel. Everything I've read says that factory Cobra t-5's had the steel bearing retainer. I have my doubts that someone would put an aluminum retainer on there if it already had the steel one. Short of taking the thing apart to check for the tapered bearings, I don't know that I can be sure it's really out of a Cobra. It is a WC transmission, but without the tag I don't know how to tell for sure what it came from. I know the Cobra T-5 isn't much stronger than a regular WC. I just want know what I'm buying, especially if I have to buy parts for it in the future.
