Default Bad idle - probably vacuum leak

Well the title says it all more or less. It's a 92 or 93 LX with the 302.

It idles pretty rough and wants to die right after you start it unless you rev it, probably wiring or the batter. Once it's running the idle is real rough. I know there are a million threads saying all the same thing, and I ran a search but didn't find what I needed. My google fu also failed me.

The reason I think it may be a vacuum leak is because when I got the oil changed the guy doing it found a piece of vacuum line sitting right next to the engine block, both ends rotted away.

Also, where would be the best play to look for a power steering gearbox or whatever it is, can't remember exactly what he called it. The same mechanic said it looked like it was shot to hell and possibly spraying fluid onto the manifolds and causing the burning smell I get. The car turns fine and doesn't sound funny like it would if it needed fluid.

By the way, he notices this while changing the oil after it spent 3 weeks at a dealer where they "fixed" it.

Also I should add it's an LX Convertible if that makes any difference with AOD and cruise control, which works fine btw. The AC also seems to be working other than the fact that it doesn't blow cold air, but I know what I need to do to fix that.

Where is my head? I could have sworn I put it on this morning. I guess I need a vacuum diagram to check with. That and I need to be at home to check it out too.
