Auto or stick? EFI or carb? Where in texas are you located? How much of a budget does this high school ride have?

Well if you are going auto then you are going to want to use an AOD most likely so you don't have to worry about driving on the highway too much. You will want to have that rebuilt and beefed up a little because AOD's are junk from the factory. Then with a stall, shift kit and a trans cooler you will be ok there. That right there can cost you easily 2k+for a good trans alone.

Then for the engine there is still alot of ways you can go. Everyone wants fast and reliable so that is still a little too vague. I would suggest in finding a parts car though that way you have all the little things and wiring that you need.

Just in case no one has tried to talk you put of this - let me.

I have a 66 with a 5.0 efi and 5 speed swapped from a 93. If I had to do it over again, I would have built a 351.

If you build a wild 5.0 you will have crappy mileage and it will have some driveability issues. You can build a similar 351 that will get crappy mileage, driveability issues and will make more power and be cheaper and much, much easier to build.

Here are just a few thingz you'll have to do to get the 5.0 installed and running...

Electric fuel pump with return lines, and new pickup or tank. Harness, either mod and old one or buy a new and install it in the car. Get the right computer. Oil pan, modify the timing cover for oil tune dipstick, modify the radiator for reverse flow water pump, relocate battery to trunk or driver side engine compartment, shorten driveshaft, etc, etc, etc....

Build the 351, but the swap mounts and headers and be done....too easy.
