Default Steeda #19 Cam & 1.7 Roller Rockers

***Question answered, new question in a below post***

OK, quick question. I have finally gotten around to tearing down the 5.0 to fix the blown head gasket and timing cover gasket I have. Since I'm in there I want to put a Steeda 19 cam in, but I have one question. Does anybody know rather or not the cam is compatable with 1.7 Crane roller rockers? Steeda's cam card specifically says to use 1.6 stock rollers, so do I have to go back to stock and will the springs on the X303 heads I have hold up to the slightly extra lift of the cam. The valve train is all new (minues the 5 thousand or so miles I put on it since the last build in February, I just don't know how much lift the X303 springs can take.

Hopefully OnyxCobra can chime in as he's running a #19 cam in his car. I think he still has the stock 1.7 cranes but I'm not sure.

most heads will handle .550" lift. the #19 with the 1.7's will give you .510" lift. you'll be fine.

i think the reason is that maybe the #19 is designed to work on stock heads (?)...
they dont flow any more from like .450" up, so maybe the 1.6 is a way to limit lift...
i know the #19 works great with the 94/95 ECU. had one in my car with some ported GT40P's and LOVED IT.

Cool, I'm getting the cam then. A car with similar mods to me (although I have a couple more) and a Vortech running the same boost put out 471 rwhp, so I'm liking those figures.

OK, second question. Anybody have any idea what could of caused the head gasket and the timing chain cover gaskets to fail. The gaskets both failed at the water jackets as if the radiator system had over pressurized.

I also spoke to a local guy that builds stangs and he highly suggested tapping both valve covers and putting a breather in to relieve crank pressure, especially with the KB being on there. Anybody have any comments for or against this?

Ceetwarrior on corral is making 450hp and 497lbs of torque through an auto with the 1.5 at 9lbs, gt40x heads and shorty headers with the steeda 19 and 1.7 rockers. Pretty damn impressive I thought.

Anyway, I have wondered why people fab their own bypass valve for the kenne bells at higher boost levels? They claim they can cause damage without one but, no one has ever went into detail on what type damage.

Yes, I still have the rubber tube that goes from the oil fill on the passenger side to the BBK CAI. It's the drivers side that's sealed off, and that's the side I'm worried about. Funny thing is, the gasket blew on the passenger side of the car.

As far as the blow off valve goes I have no freeking clue how to make one myself, but my Kenne Bell is running higher boost, 11 PSI, so I know it would be a decent idea to have one.

Just thought I'd chime in. I run a Steeda #18 cam w/1.7 crane rollers, in my 93GT and I am real happy with it. In the spring I'll be installing a s/c, low boost (6-8psi), can't wait. Steeda cams don't seem to get alot of love, but I was happy with my choice.
