Default running lean and pinging...help

hey guys, i have been trying to fig out why my car is pinging. timing can be 10-16 degress and it will still ping the same, and usually under the same conditions. which are a lil bit under normal driving while accelerating, or while giving half throttle in overdrive at highway speeds. i ran seamfoam and it didnt help. i ran codes, and the egr came up bad, so i replaced it. its been tuned up about 8000 miles ago. its a stock hatch 1988, only mods are o/r h pipe, and cai. i did pull a spark plug and it was chalk white, so its running lean as well.
how do i make this go away?

check fuel pressure, but I'd run a koer and make sure there are no codes, if no codes, then make sure the balance has not spun and is giving you an inaccurate timing reading, also make sure car is not running hot period

ya check ur fuel pressure. should be around 40or 45psi (dont remember exactly) with the vac line off the fpr. if is bad ur fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator may be going bad.

ur setting the timing with the spout connector our right? and what fuel are you running?

havent had a chance 2 work on it in a while. but heres an update. the balancer is good, i put some 91 octane in it. it still pings. usually only around certain low rpms while accelerating or while in od and 3/4 throttle. i even bumped the timing down to 8 degrees and its the same thing. i will try to get a fp tester to check it, any other ideas

hmmm... sounds like a loose rocker arm or somethin check your valve terain by putting a long screw driver up to the valve cover and you can usually tell which side and wich location the loose rocker arm is or you might have a bad lifter or lifters, running lean like that for long periods of time can crack piston rings also. oh and your timing should be between 16-20 degrees.
