good thinking, what i honestly want is about 280-300 rwhp, i want trick flow track heat intake, trick flow heads, or 351 heads if they can pull the hp, and cam..along with cold air and it will have longtubes and o/r exhaust all the way back...witht he 3:73's..that is my goal, if i can get it done on the carb motor tho, it would be great, what do you suggest mjr since you are the know it all and i trust you...anybody else chime in..not bashing anyone,

ON A SIDE NOTE!! the carb motor has 161k on it and it runs balls out all the time, it however burns oil from the #2 cylinder, what can i do to fix that, it only blows a little coal under WOT, other than that its clean, even on start up, she just uses some oil..but for 975 bucks and a free spare fuelie motor i didnt care...let me know!!!

well that is what i dont know, and i am 100% aware that a track heat is a efi intake, idk if i stated it or not but the car came with a complete efi engine, but i really like the carb, its so simple, but like i said she is drinking oil from a cylinder, and i dont know if i should sell the motor and just fix the carbd one i have, or build the efi motor with the trick flow parts...so i don't know.suggestions?

Why not play with the car with the carb motor in it, while you're build the 88/89 5.0? Since you like carb just keep the 88/89 motor carb as well?

I thought the 85's were factory carb anyhow - were there split-year models that got EFI?

But having a fresh short block is definitely a cool idea, I wish I could have done that with mine when I first got it. Would've girdled everything and paid more attention to fasteners and gaskets than when I kept changing my mind as to what I wanted to achieve with the car.

Keep in mind, you don't need to make your EFI motor an EFI motor...

Just my .02

ahah very true, all 1985 mustangs were carbed, it came with a 88/89 efi motor....no split models that got efi that i know of....but i am trying to figure out why the carbd motor is drinking oil, like i said it burns it under WOT, but if i could figure that out then i would build te carb up a little...and work on the 88/89 5.0 motor at the same time, like you said....and judging by your last sentence i assume your saying use the efi block and parts and just put the carbd stuff back on it right? which i was also considering too...
