so i swapped out the solenoid relay on the fender... when i removed the old one, i could hear water sloshing around inside it .

started up like a champ with the new relay... i was worried that the short was somewhere else because jumping it with a screwdriver didn't work, but it turns out that the post that the starter connects to was just shorted out.


a suggestion for testing for a shorted solenoid relay: disconnect the starter cable from its post and actually touch it to the hot post where the positive battery cable goes. if the car starts up then, there's a short in the relay .
